Two youth members of the Flatirons Young Marines, Jonah Luna, 8, and Ehreem Barila, 14, traveled to Window Rock, Arizona last month. They joined nearly 120 other Young Marines from across the country to honor and give praise to the Navajo Code Talkers from WWII.

For three days, the Young Marines, including Barila and Luna, accompanied veterans and performed several other duties.

“Navajo Code Talkers Day is an event that the Young Marines and the Navajo code talkers look forward to every year," said Brenda McNulty, Young Marines event coordinator.

"Our partnership between the descendants of the Navajo Code Talkers and the Young Marines has strengthened year after year since 2006. It is a collaborative effort in which both parties create a successful event for everyone to enjoy.”

The Flatirons Young Marines is the Longmont-chapter of the Young Marines, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides a youth education and service program for boys and girls ages eight through high school.
