The City of Longmont issued a statement Thursday, June 1st to reassure worried residents who found hangers on their front doors offering free testing of their tap water. The flyers were from a company called Home Water Solutions. The City says it has received several calls from residents about this solicitation in the past few days. They offered the following statement as an explanation.

"This company is not associated with the City and data collected by Home Water Solutions is not being used for any purpose related to the City’s operation of its water utility. Home Water Solutions is a private company offering self-described, water treatment equipment service & supplies.

Residents are not likely to need additional water testing services. The City independently collects approximately 90 water samples per month throughout Longmont to test water quality in the distribution system and ensure continued delivery of high-quality drinking water.

The City also completes an annual Water Quality Report (WQR) in compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act to provide customers with information about the quality of their drinking water. The WQR also is submitted to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, which requires that all public water systems complete the reports and provide them to residents annually.

The City of Longmont recently published the 2016 Water Quality Report. It was mailed to all Longmont utility customers the week of May 22 Inside the Public Works and Natural Resources Annual Report. The WQR explains the City's rigorous methods for testing water quality and includes a summary of test results. The City is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety in our drinking water. An expanded version of the WQR also is available online at LongmontColorado.gov/water. Additionally, residents can call (303) 651-8468 for more information."
