LEDP has issued Longmont Observer a press release regarding soliciting new applicants for its Local Business Advisory Committee.

Longmont, CO: The Longmont Economic Development Partnership (EDP) is soliciting new applicants for its Local Business Advisory Committee, a group of volunteer local business leaders providing input and ideas to Longmont EDP and City leadership in their efforts to support the success of Longmont’s local business community.  Since its founding a year ago, the Local Business Advisory Committee has taken identified strategies to support the local business community, and has advised Longmont City Council as they address policy issues impacting local businesses.  The Longmont EDP is seeking to expand the committee from thirteen members to fifteen members and is now accepting new applicants interested in serving on the committee.  The primary criteria to serve on this committee is owning and operating a locally serving business based in Longmont.  Longmont EDP and current committee members are interested in adding additional expertise and voices to this already diverse set of local business representatives.  The application for the Local Business Advisory Committee is available on the Longmont EDP website, www.longmont.org/about-us/committees, and applications are being accepted now through June 26, 2017.

“We recognize the key contribution that local businesses make to the City’s economy, employment base and the strength of our community’s economic health.  We also recognize that local business owners can face challenges in establishing, maintaining and growing their business in Longmont,” said Jessica Erickson, President of the Longmont EDP.  “We understand that the only way to support this sector of our local economy is to go straight to the source and engage local business leaders in developing recommendations and solutions to make Longmont an even better place to do business.”

Over the past year, the committee has weighed in with City Council on a variety of policy issues, including Windy Gap financing, initiatives to address the growing homeless and panhandling populations, and the allowance of retail marijuana shops in the City of Longmont.  The committee, in partnership with the LDDA and other local non-profits, developed and made widely available, online resources for local business owners to assist with homeless populations around their business, and is in the process of assisting the City to develop a new workshop targeted at small business owners to educate and support them with the building and permitting process in Longmont.

Current Local Business Advisory Committee members include: Edward “Ted” Bendelow, Bendelow Law Offices LLC; Brian Berry, MeritCard Solutions; Teresa McPhail, Mac’s Place, Stacy Cornay, Communication Concepts Public Relations & Advertising; Mitch Carson, Longmont United Hospital/Centura Health;  Ken Voss, Re/Max Commercial Division; Mark Sheeley, Rawlins National Bank; Carmen Sample, Sample Supports/Samples World Bistro/ Crystal Joys; Kevin Reddy, Golden Van Lines; Kurt Finley, Re/Max Traditions Inc., Commercial & Residential;  Clarissa Edelen, Fabulous Finds Upscale Consignment; Dennis Dinsmore, Wyatt’s Wet Goods; and Karen Mastie, Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce.
