The City of Longmont is looking at installing an approximately 8 foot high by 20 foot long stone and metal sign on the east side of Longmont.

The price for the first sign is approximately $28,000.  Two to three total signs, for a total final cost of up to $75,000 is being voted on in Council's Tuesday night regular meeting.

According to the City Council communication:

"One of the projects funded in the Capital Improvement Plan is City Entryway Signage. Several locations were chosen through a community-involved process, as was the design of the permanent, stone sign. Construction is planned for the first sign on Highway 119, across from Sandstone Ranch in April/May. Even though this is a municipal sign on private property, this is one of the few instances in which CDOT has police power over private lands. Staff at CDOT have asked the City Council to pass a resolution calling this an official city sponsored non-commercial sign. If Council passes the resolution, CDOT will write a concurrence letter authorizing the sign forever."
