Longmont City Council approved a $20,000 grant Tuesday night for the Bright EYES (Early Years Education Stewards) zero to five programming that was awarded to the City of Longmont's Children, Youth, and Families (CYF) Division in January 2018.

According to city council communication, "Funds will be used to support the Mayor’s Book Club, to increase the amount of time children are read to and the number of books in the home."

It will support "a parent support group in collaboration with the Longmont YMCA, and an Early Learning Summit that will provide a local training opportunity for public and private childcare providers to network, learn and problem solve."

The Bright EYES initiative began in 2003 with the purpose to promote programs for preschool-aged students. Bright EYES launched the Mayor's Book Club program in April 2007.
