Most City Facilities Closed on Friday

Longmont city government observes the Veterans Day holiday on Friday, November 10. These facilities will be CLOSED: Civic Center, Service Center, Library, Senior Center, Youth Center, Waste Diversion Center, and Development Services Center. The Longmont Museum and all recreation facilities will be open regular hours.

Reception for Outgoing Council Members

The public is invited to honor Longmont’s outgoing mayor and council members at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, November 14, at the Longmont Civic Center, 350 Kimbark Street. The public also is invited to attend the swearing in of a new mayor and council at 7:30 pm on Monday, November 13, in the City Council Chambers at 350 Kimbark. For information, call 303-651-8601.

Enhanced Multi-use Corridor Public Meeting

Over the past several months, the City of Longmont has been developing a plan for Enhanced Multi-Use Corridors and now we are interested in hearing from the community! Please join us at the Longmont Senior Center on Tuesday, November 14 from 5 to 6:30 pm to provide input on the overall network, specific concepts for individual corridors and other issues the City should consider with the proposed roadway redesigns. Sales and Use Tax Seminar

Do you have questions about the business sales and use tax in Longmont? A free seminar that will answer all your questions will be held from 10 am to noon on Wednesday, November 15, in the Study Session Room at the Civic Center, 350 Kimbark Street. Topics include sales tax basics, use tax overview, point of taxation information, and manufacturing and R&D exemptions. Attendees will be entered into a drawing for a Downtown Longmont gift card. “Rap with Rec” for Answers to Your Questions

Do you have a question about Longmont Recreation & Golf Services’ facilities or programs? “Rap with Rec” in an informal talk with recreation facility supervisors at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, November 14, at the Longmont Recreation Center310 Quail Road. Bring ideas, suggestions, and questions regarding your experience taking a class, playing in a league, attending a special event or other topic of your choice. No registration is required. RTD to Host Highway 119 BRT Study Meetings

From 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, November 15, at the Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road, RTD will hold a public meeting on the progress of a study that is evaluating the viability of bus rapid transit (BRT) service on Highway 119 (the Diagonal) between Boulder and Longmont. Project ALERT to Hold First Public Meeting

Project ALERT is a new effort by residents for residents to give residents the knowledge and tools they need to strengthen their neighborhoods. The first class will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 am on Thursday, November 16, at the OUR Center, 220 Collyer Street. You’ll learn about the work that the OUR Center and HOPE do in our community, followed by a discussion of community safety. Call or text Richard at 303-845-2785 to reserve your place.

Free UCHealth Seminars

Join the orthopedic doctors of UCHealth Longmont Clinic and learn tips to stay healthy, strong, and pain free in Recreation Services’ free presentations on select Wednesdays from 6 to 7 pm at the Longmont Recreation Center, 310 Quail Road. Upcoming fall classes include Common Shoulder/Rotator Cuff Injuries (November 15) and ACL Injury & Prevention (November 29), with more topics to be offered this winter. Landfill Drop Day

The City of Longmont is offering residents an opportunity to take one level pickup load FREE of charge to the Front Range Landfill at 1830 Weld County Road 5 in Erie from 7 am to 2 pm on Saturday, November 18. Loads must be covered and secured for transport; oversized loads and second loads will be billed accordingly. Please take a photo ID and a copy of your current utility bill to show that you are a City of Longmont customer. Register for “Classic Colorado Ski Descents”

His latest book, “Classic Colorado Ski Descents,” recounts Dr. Jon Kedrowski’s achievement as the first person – according to the Denver Post – to climb and ski each of Colorado’s 14ers in one winter and spring ski season. He’ll share those experiences, stories, and lessons learned with Longmont readers from 7 to 8 pm on Wednesday, December 13, at the Longmont Public Library, 409 4th Avenue. Take Online Fair Housing Survey

The City of Longmont is participating in a Fair Housing Study with the City and County of Denver, the City of Aurora, and all of the Boulder County communities to better understand residents’ housing choices and their experiences living, working, and going to school in the area. You can help by completing an online survey at denver-aurora-boulderafh.com/surveys and letting your friends and neighbors know about it, too. Paper copies also are available. All information is confidential, and the deadline is November 30. Those who take the survey will be entered into a drawing for a $100 gift card. Food, fun and learning at Zero Waste Fest on Nov. 15

Community members are invited to celebrate America Recycles Day by attending the Longmont Zero Waste Fest from 6:08:00 pm Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the Ed and Ruth Lehman YMCA, 950 Lashley St. Attendees can enjoy food, activities, and educational and interactive booths from area businesses and organizations focusing on recycling, composting, zero waste, and tackling food waste in the community. Information will be available in English and Spanish. The City of Longmont is proud to partner in this event, which is sponsored by EcoProducts. Learn About Turkeys at Sandstone Ranch

How fast can a turkey run? Do turkeys fly? Turkeys are found all along the Front Range and frequent the open space areas at the Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive. Enjoy a day at the Ranch from 10:30 am to noon on Saturday, November 11, while you learn about the wild turkey through talk, crafts and play.
