City to Host Oil and Gas Public Forum
The City of Longmont will host a public forum from 7 to 9 pm on Tuesday, May 15, to answer questions about an agreement that Longmont has negotiated with two oil and gas companies. The agreement will essentially eliminate oil and gas drilling within Longmont city limits in return for a cash payment of $3 million and a lease of 516 acres of City-owned mineral rights. Attendees will hear a staff presentation followed by a short explanation of the city council agenda process, then a panel will answer audience questions. A final vote and public hearing on the agreement are scheduled for Tuesday, May 22. For more information call

Peace Officer Memorial Service
The public is invited to join Longmont’s Public Safety Department from 1 to 2 pm on Tuesday, May 15, on the front steps of the Safety and Justice Center at 225 Kimbark Street for a memorial service honoring the men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty. Refreshments will follow.
Landfill Drop Day
Longmont residents can take one level pickup load FREE of charge to the Front Range Landfill at 1830 Weld County Road 5 in Erie from 7 am to 2 pm on Saturday, May 12. Loads must be covered and secured for transport; oversized loads and second loads will be billed accordingly. Please take a photo ID and a copy of your current utility bill to show that you are a City of Longmont

Shred Your Private Documents for Free
Take boxed or bagged papers to be shredded to the Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street between 9 am and 2 pm on Saturday, May 12. This is for residential documents only; no business documents accepted. Please also take ID and a copy of your most recent Longmont utility bill. Volunteer Board Applications Due
Residents are invited to serve as
official advisors to Longmont City Council on several boards and commissions. Applicants must be registered voters of Longmont for at least one year prior to being appointed and must reside inside Longmont city limits. Open House at Callahan House & Garden
The Historic Callahan House & Garden at 312 Terry Street will host an open house with tours from 4 to 8 pm on Saturday, May 19, as part of Downtown Longmont’s ArtWalk. Toss Your Caps, Not Your Balloons!
Longmont’s newest graduates will soon move up in the world, but don’t let the celebrations move up into the power lines! When Mylar balloons sail into the skies, their metallic surface can cause short circuit faults and power outages when they get tangled in the lines. So hang on to them tight, deflate them when you’re done, and remember, if anything gets caught in the lines – such as a balloon, a kite, or a drone – don’t try to retrieve it yourself. Unaffiliated Voters: Choose Your Primary
This year, all active unaffiliated voters will receive Primary Election
ballots for both the Democratic and Republican parties in the mail. Those voters can vote and return only one ballot. If you mark and return more than one party’s ballot, none of your votes will be counted. If you are registered as an unaffiliated voter you can update your voter registration and declare a ballot preference at UChoose.CO.gov. This will not change your unaffiliated voter registration; it simply means you will receive just one party’s ballot in the mail for this election. Update your registration by mid-May, if possible. Ballots will be mailed the first week of June.
Longmont City Council will host Coffee with Council from 9 to 10
am on Saturday, May 19, at the OUR Center, 220 Collyer Street. You can talk informally with at least two council members on any topic of your choice, and the coffee’s on us!
