The Longmont Fire Department and the Land Management Division will be conducting prescribed burns at the Peschel Open Space and Newby Open Space during the window of Thursday, April 4 to Thursday April 11. The burn at the Peschel Open Space will require a closure of the St. Vrain Greenway Trail and the trailhead at County Line Road (view Trail Map). The City will lift the closure as soon as the burn at Peschel is completed. The goal of

the Peschel Open Space burn is to increase native plant health and diversity of grasslands and wetlands, and reduce weed competition. The goal of the Newby Open Space burn is to reduce weed competition and improve water flow in drainage.
