High Wind Warning In Effect Until 9 pm
High Winds along the Front Range will continue into the early evening.

Today in Longmont we experienced a high wind event (wind gusts up to 80 per mile) and while the winds have died down, there is still a high wind warning in effect until 9 pm. Here are some tips for dealing with power outages and damage caused by the winds.
- There were several power interruptions earlier today, but power has been restored to most of the City. We know that high winds like this can still cause smaller-scale outages around town. If you are experiencing issues, please call us on our outage line (303-776-0011) or the main Longmont Power and Communications (LPC) office line (303-651-8386); we'll get our hardworking crews where they're needed.
- While you are driving, walking or biking, please pay attention to the environment – high wind events can be unpredictable! If you see downed power lines, STAY AWAY from them and anything they're in contact with, and call LPC at 303-776-0011 or the main Longmont Power and Communications (LPC) office line (303-651-8386). A downed line can energize the ground 35 feet away, so please stay clear and stay safe!
- If you see a stop sign or traffic signal down, after hours, call Public Safety Non-emergency 303-651-8501. If you find other traffic signs down due to the wind, please let us know using Service Works online, or call Public Works and Natural Resources at 303-651-8416. If you encounter an intersection where the traffic signals are not working, remember to treat the intersection as a 4-way stop.
- Help prevent a Litter-palooza. Be sure to pull trash carts in after they are collected. If your cart needs to be out, put the handle into the wind to help keep the lid closed.
- To report downed or damaged trees on City property or right-of-way, contact Forestry. If you have damaged trees on private property, please contact an independent tree contractor. Tree branches that fall on your property can be cut into 3 foot pieces and taken to the Tree Limb Diversion Center, 140 Martin Street and branches up to 6 inches in diameter are allowed in your compost bin (the lid must close). If you see a tree branch in the street, please pull it to the side. If you see a damaged tree in the public right-of-way, please let us know using Service Works, or call 303-651-8416.
