Free Windows to Wellness Fair

Begin to fulfill your 2018 health resolutions by attending Recreation Services’ annual wellness fair from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm on Saturday, January 20, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. Learn about providers in our community, visit vendors, attend a free fitness class demonstration, and sign up for 10-minute sessions for $5 or 20-minute sessions for $10 (cash only – please bring small bills) with practitioners. Meet the Geeks at the Senior Center

If you’re ready to take on new technology with the new year, drop in at the free Meet the Geeks event from 9:30 to 11:30 am on Monday, January 29, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. Talk with the tech-savvy age 55+ volunteer instructors and sign up for classes that cost as little as $2 each. This peer-to-peer program is a low-pressure environment to learn computer, tablet, and smartphone basics in over 20 different classes. Call 303-651-8411 for more information.

Fire Station 1 Open to Public

Meet your Longmont firefighters at Longmont Station 1, 1070 Terry Street, on January 27 between 1 to 3 pm. Tour the station, get an understanding of the equipment that we carry, ask questions. Did you know that Longmont Fire Station 1 houses the historic

2018 Public Safety Citizen Academy

The next Public Safety Citizen Academy begins on February 6 with classes on Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 9:30 pm through May 15 plus two Saturday field days. The academy features hands-on classroom experience, a tour of the Longmont Emergency Communications Center, and a tour of fire vehicles and an ambulance. Do You Live in Ward 1?

The City of Longmont will conduct a Special Election on Feb. 27, 2018 to fill the unexpired Ward I term vacated by Council Member Brian Bagley when he was elected as Mayor on Nov. 7, 2017. The City is contracting with the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder's Office to conduct the mail ballot election. You will receive a ballot only if you live in Ward 1 of the City of Longmont and are an active registered voter. Check the Ward Map to find out which ward you live in.

Watching Wildlife in Winter

Become a skilled wildlife watcher from 10:30 am to noon on Saturday, January 27,

at the Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive. Learn how to see signs of wildlife such as tracks and scat, how to interpret the signs that you see, and clues that can point you in the right direction. Limited seating is available. Call 303-651-8404 to reserve your spot at least one week in advance. There is a $2/child, $4/adult suggested donation collected at the event.

“The Future of Wild Horses” at the Library

In this special library program, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and New York Times national correspondent Dave Philipps will outline the history and myth of the wild horse, how both helped create the current debacle, what science can tell us about sustainable ways to preserve the wild horse, and some of the last wild places in the west where the herds live. “Black Gold” at the Library

From 7 to 8 pm on Thursday, February 22, enjoy an often overlooked slice of history with “Black Gold: The African-American Experience in Early Colorado.” Adrian Miller, a Denver-based, award-winning writer and amateur historian and one of the library’s most popular presenters, will spend an informative and entertaining evening shining a spotlight on the interesting African Americans who lived in Colorado before 1920. This program will be held in the City Council Chambers at 350 Kimbark Street, and online registration is required at bit.ly/LibPrograms. No email or internet service? Coffee with Council on Saturday 

Longmont City Council will host Coffee with Council from 9 to 10 am on Saturday, January 27, at la Madeleine Bakery and Cafe, 1236 S. Hover Street. You can talk informally with at least two council members on any topic of your choice, and the coffee’s on us! Mayor Bagley and Council Member Peck are scheduled to attend.
