New Director of Engineering Joins Longmont Team in late February

Jim Angstadt will join PWNR as its new Director of Engineering on Feb. 26.

The City of Longmont is welcoming a new Director of Engineering to the Public Works & Natural Resources (PWNR) department beginning Feb. 26. James “Jim” Angstadt comes to Longmont from the City of Port St. Lucie, Fla., where he led that city’s Public Works department through the aftermath of two hurricanes, as well as several tropical storms and major rain events over the past 12 years. Since 2014, he has served as Public Works Director for the community of more than 185,000 residents.

“Jim’s strong qualifications exemplify the City’s culture and led us to select him after an intensive interview process with several other candidates,” said PWNR

General Manager Dale Rademacher. “His experience with helping to create resilient communities is a great fit for the City and our community.”

Angstadt has more than 30 years of experience in the engineering field, including working with consulting firms and municipalities where he specialized in the design, construction and maintenance of transportation and public infrastructure improvements. While with Port St. Lucie’s Public Works department, he completed large-scale projects including the Eastern Watershed Improvement Project, a multi-million dollar drainage project that was developed in response to heavy flooding caused by 2008’s Tropical Storm Fay. He was named the City of Port St. Lucie Employee of the Year in 2008.

Angstadt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He and his family will be relocating to the

Longmont area.

Angstadt will replace current PWNR Director of Engineering, Nick Wolfrum, who is retiring after 33 years with the City of Longmont. Wolfrum began his career with Longmont as an engineer and project manager in 1985, advancing to Engineering Manager and then City Engineer before assuming the title of Director of Engineering in 2009 during a city reorganization that yielded the Public Works & Natural Resources department. Wolfrum’s last day as Director of Engineering will be Feb. 23.

Wolfrum cites the completion of the Ken Pratt Boulevard extension in 2003 and the first phases of the City’s Resilient St. Vrain project as two of the projects he’s most proud of during his tenure. “I’m proud of the work that PWNR has done on developing good, resilient infrastructure to serve the residents of Longmont,” he said. “Our efforts to provide key public works services to the community and residents have made Longmont a wonderful community to live in.”

Wolfrum will continue working part-time on projects including Resilient St. Vrain, the City of Longmont’s extensive, multi-year project to fully restore the St. Vrain Greenway trail and improve the St. Vrain Creek channel to protect people and property from future flooding. He also plans to bike and enjoy area golf courses, as well as traveling with his wife.
